Liberty Stripe Barn Jacket - Washed Indigo

Our Barn Jackets are our own interpretation of the workwear-staple coveralls originally from the early 1900s. Seen most often in the railway industry, liberty stripes and hickory stripes were hard-wearing, breathable, and a fabric that was readily available. It hid dirt and grime particularly well which made it ideal for that kind of industry. You can find the earliest examples of this fabric from old railway workers hats, which were extremely necessary to keep the ash and cinder out of the workers' eyes. Soon, the jackets, dungarees, and coveralls followed suit.

We've accumulated quite a few of these older garments in our archive. There were some things we just had to keep the same, like the contrasting green bar-tacks, hardware which are custom developed for this Wythe barn jacket, and the triple needle construction. You'll find nods to our own design, like our acorn pocket shape, green center-seam, and our aged steer-head snaps on the chest pockets.

The liberty stripe is akin to the more well-known hickory stripe, but was something we found a bit more visually interesting. The washed version features the same wear and fade pattern as our washed denim version.
