These bright and bold satin shirts are inspired by the rayon shirts worn by bronc riders and calf-roping riders in the 1930s and 1940s, shortly after rayon was first used in apparel. Historically, there were a few different materials used for these shirts. One was a twill gabardine, usually dyed in bright colors - but these got very hot. An alternative was rayon, which was a fake silk, or silk substitute. Silk was pretty expensive for a shirt to be worn on a horse around a dusty stadium, and could possibly get beat up, so rayon was a great alternative. Plus you could make rayon even brighter and illustrious. Lots of apparel companies, and even custom tailors, would use a solid shiny rayon to make these bright shirts for the rodeo riders.

Besides being bright and fun, the idea was that if you were wearing this bright shirt, your movement would catch the judges’ eyes more during the competitions and would hopefully be rated higher.

As superstitious as these riders were, they also had the “look good, feel good, ride good” mentality when wearing these shirts.

So this is our interpretation of those original shirts. We made these up from different pieces of 100% custom dyed viscose.

These will have a similar fit to the Tencel Pearlsnap Shirts, but made up a bit smaller. Please consider sizing up from your normal shirt size for a more classic fit.
